Spatial Analysis Laboratory
The Department of Geography and the Environment is home to the Spatial Analysis Laboratory (SAL). The lab features eight dual-monitor computer workstations and the latest GIS, GPS and remote sensing software programs including ArcGIS 9.2, Erdas Imagine and Idrisi. The SAL also houses an extensive map collection and a rapidly growing library of digital data. A full-time lab director supports all software, hardware and materials, and is available to facilitate their use. Students in GIS, spatial analysis and remote sensing courses utilize this lab for assignments and projects, learning the underlying principles of spatial analysis and getting hands-on experience with the latest technology. Geography and environmental studies majors also use the Spatial Analysis Laboratory to pursue advanced research projects under the guidance of geography professors. Every year select students present their research at the prestigious Association of American Geographers' annual conference.
